Is there some way I can print from my new lap top, to my old but otherwise well functioning HP LaserJet 3030? I like both products and think it is a waste not to be able to use the 3030 just because I bought a new lap top. My wife's new Air Book immendiately hooked up to the old faithful servant LaserJet 3030.

To use a printer something needs to convert the application into printer language.  This task is normally performed by a print driver.  Drivers are developed for specific Operating Systems.  When a product goes end of life then so too does the software development of drivers for that product.

Thankfully the HP LaserJet 3030 is supported by the HP Universal Print Driver:

Download and try one of the UPDs for your new laptop and see if you can get it to work.

Your proposal “

” did not work. Tried several times. Do you know of someone who made it work?

There are two different UPDs available at the moment, PCL6 and PostScript.  Try them both if you have not already.

The first step is to download the UPD to your PC.  The download will contian a compressed file with everything your OS needs to complete the install.  Run the compressed file to begin the extraction process.  Follow the steps on the screen to select a custom location or use the default location as an extraction point.  Once the UPD is extracted to your machine you will need to run the software wizard to finish the installation.  The installation wizard normally pops up automatically after the extraction is complete.

The last step is to point your print queue or create a new print queue to the UPD that is installed on your PC.  If an option to migrate your printer does not appear then you can create a new print queue by launchign the Add a Printer wizard from Microsoft in your Printers and Scanners folder.  Follow the steps on screen to point the new queue to the newly installed print driver.

Please confirm the error messages when you attempt to print or install if you are recieving any.  Error messages are an important clue when troubleshooting problems.

I use UPDs for printer installations every day.  I am confident they can work for you too if properly installed.  There are lots of guides and instructions for this subject so let us know where you are getting stuck for more assistance.
