Laserjet 500 MFP M575
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever trying to install this printer it keeps coming back with an error message (This is done using USB)

The error message is: "An install operation took too long to execute. This is a fatal error preventing product use. Please restart your computer, and run this installer again. If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product"

Then I ran a RJ-45 cable and tried to do it over the network, that seemed to HALF work. Any solutions as to why this printer is such a pain in the rear?

Kind Regards,

Randy

There are two likely explanations in my experience:

1. You have a Universal Print Driver installed that hijacked your printer installation.  UPDs monitor for Plug and Play printers.  If you plug one in, such as when the HP installation wizard instructs you to do, then the UPD takes over and creates its own printing queue with a unique name.  This throws off the HP printer installation by making it think the queue never installed.  You can correct this problem by uninstalling all your HP drivers from the Print Server Properties list.

To view the drivers under Print Server Properties (Win10):

1. Navigate to Start > Search "Printers" > Select Printers & Scanners

2. Scroll down and click the link for Devices and Printers

3. Highlight a printer queue in the list

4. Along the top toolbar a button will appear by the name of Print Server Properties

5. Click the Drivers tab

6. Review the currently installed printer drivers on your PC

2. You do not have a good USB connection.  Open up Device Manager and watch the list as you plug in your printer.  The list should refresh automatically every time you plug or unplug a physical device.  If there is no movement in Device Manager then your USB port, USB Cable or the USB port on the printer is bad.  Reseat the conenction at all ends, swap the cable as necessary, make sure you are plugged into the correct port.

Considering you have a similar problem with an RJ45 Id lean towards option 1 as your issue.

Attached you will find the problem I'm having now after uninstalling everything and going through a fresh install.Screen Shot 2019-03-20 at 9.07.34 PM.png

The 575 is a MFP which means it has a scanner assembly.  The scanner should show up in the "Imaging Devices" area of your Device Manager when you connect via USB.  It should also remove when you disconnect the USB cable.

What you are displaying in the Device Manager with this screenshot is the print queues.  Queues are objects created by Windows to help manage the physical printer connections.  Multiple queues can be installed for a single physical printer.  The queues also do not refresh when you plug or unplug USB devices.  Instead I would expect there to be an object in the "Printers" area of Device Manager when a proper USB connection is created.

It looks like the HP Installation wizard made it past the initial "Connect the product" phase.  That suggests you had at least a partial USB connection at some point.  This also suggests that your USB cable connection is flakey and swapping the USB cable with another one might be a good idea.

As you play with the USB cable be sure to notice if the connection on the PC or the printer is loose.  A broken USB cable connection might be good enough for a partial connection but consistenly fail if it is bumped or jiggled in any way.  That might explain how you got that far into the install but the install was not able to finish.

I suggest you continue to monitor the Device Manager as you play with the USB cable.  Jiggle the connection on both ends and see if you can get Device Manager to refresh.  Look for objects in the "printers" and "Imaging Devices" areas when the USB connection is complete as your verification.  Then watch these areas as the printer install wizard progresses through the steps.  If the connection drops at any point then the Install wizard will fail too.

Make sure when you uninstall that the current "HP Laserjet 500 color MFP M575 PCL6" print queue is removed from device manager before you proceed too.  We dont want anything else to hijack your new connection and throw off the installation wizard.
