Did this ever get solved?
I have what sounds like a similar / the same problem - except it happens with all the OpenType fonts I've got, and I think it started with the recent Windows 10 update (1804). I have a two-year-old M252dw Colour LaserJet.
What happens in Word and WordPad when there is an OTF, is nothing - no error - but in the Event Viewer there is a spooling event, followed immediately by 'the print document was deleted, no user action required'.
In Excel there is a generic 'the printing failed' with some (useless) troubleshooting.
In Affinity Designer, it says 'failed to initialise printer'.
However, if I select my (Canon) inkjet printer, or print to PDF, or change the fonts to TrueType, everything prints fine - which suggests to me the problem is not Windows, but the HP printer driver. Somehow it seems not to be able to receive OpenType fonts on Windows 10 any more.
Given it is now two years since HP updated the driver for Windows 10, perhaps an incompatibility has been introduced? Does no-one else have this problem?

I've received some support through Twitter - which included completely removing the driver and reinstalling the printer (which I had tried anyway). I won't be doing that again, unless there is a new version of the driver - is there anything else that can be done?

Thank you very much.
Appreciate your time and patience.
I've some well-recommended steps of this issue.
I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, use this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m252-series/7089938/model/708... select the correct operating system, download and install the drivers.
Go to devices and printers.
Right-click on the printer
->Then go to Printer Properties
->Preference
->Advanced tab
-> Print Data Optimization
Set it to "Optimize for Text and Vector". Then click on Apply and OK to save the setting. Then try printing to check.
You may also try to set it to Optimize for Raster" click on apply and ok to save the setting. Try printing to check.
If above steps works, then there is no need to follow below steps.
As an alternate option:
Download and Install PS driver from the product support page
Use the PCL6 or PS driver to print and enable the Send TrueType as Bitmap option.
Make sure you are using the model-specific PCL6 or PS driver.
Open Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and then select Printing Preferences.
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Printer Features, enable the Send TrueType as Bitmap option.
Click Apply and click OK.
Try printing.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Have a great day!

Hi - none of this works.
I have three printer drivers installed - UPD (Type 3) and PCL 6 (Type 3 and Type 4). The printer will print with the UPD driver, but the quality is not as good as it used to be with the PCL 6 driver.
Anything else?

I never found a solution. I managed to get the printer working using the Universal Print Driver, but a) the print quality is noticeably not as good, and b) it doesn't support printing multiple pages properly, which is the main way I print, to save paper.
All the 'solutions' involve uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, when there is clearly a deeper problem here.

Just today I ran into this issue. In fact it does not print while using an .otf font directly from Word but it DOES print it from PDF. All this was working some weeks ago. Since then I once re-installed the printer driver from scratch. I cannot tell if it has todo with this.
This is strange and I really would like to see this fixed, but maybe the PDF workaround helps for a while.
