I have been having the same issue on the MFP 277c6. It was working for almost a year (just under the guarantee period) and now won't print a pdf or other complicated file. It will print from Safari. I've tried resetting a number of times, and I have the printer plugged directly into the wall. I tried setting the printer up through the IP address. Nothing worked. I hate to replace the printer (it works....and I like the printing quality). But now I can't use it to print from my Mac. I don't know how to turn off Air Print (that could be the problem), nor do I know how to switch the driver from the Apple Driver to an HP driver (if that is the issue at all).

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
If the issue only occurs while printing a PDF file, then try printing the PDF file as an image. You may use the steps available in this document to print the PDF file as an image.
If the issue occurs even while printing other type of documents, then its an issue with print driver settings or the printer driver installed on your Mac. Since you have already tried adjusting the print driver settings, its possible that the printer driver is causing the issue. Removing existing printer driver and adding a compatible driver should fix any corrupted or damaged printer driver. The steps below should help you to remove the existing printer driver and add a compatible driver:
Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer and Mac software:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print.
Let me know how it goes!

Hi there. That solution didn't work. My files are current. My firmware is current. After several hours (and checking for availability of other manufacturer's printers in case I couldn't get the HP to work) I finally got the HP to work by manually entering the iP4 IP address into the system and adding the printer that way. It was probably on the fourth or fifth attempt that I got it work. Honestly HP has to do a better job updating its printer drivers for the new operating systems. This is a communication issue between OS High Sierra and HP. This shouldn't be for the user to figure out. This is HP's drive as a huge manufacturer of printers. I am enormously disappointed that it took me hours to get the printer to get back to working as it should. I get it drivers/operating systems/software are complicated. But this is your job! The printers should be advertised as not working for or on Apple because they don't. The printer still isn't totally compatible with my computer (all software) as I get some error messages and the printer is 'acting funny' meaning turning on and off randomly....but at least it is working. It's new and I don't use it that much so I won't replace it for now. But do a better job HP! Get on it. Get new drivers out to your customers before they revolt and turn to Canon in droves.
