I'm fighting with a M281fdw MFD Color Laser Jet installed on a Windows 2016 Std Server using Universal Print Driver PLC6 or PCL6 v6.6.5 drivers.
When running test prints from the server, or from Win7 and Win10 desktops that are using the shared printer on the server all prints (including word docs and pdfs) automatically getsubmitted as 'Paused' and the user needs to go to the print que and release them.
I can't find a way around this and i think it is unreasonable to ask users to jump through this extra hoop just to print.
No other printers on the Win2016Std Server box do this.

Are you using any kind of printing page count software such as Paper Cut?

If so you will have to work with your print management software provider for clarification.
Are the doors on this printer opened or ajar? If so the printer may be pausing jobs as a precaution until someone can service the printer. Have someone swing by the printer and take a look.

Pausing is a process controlled by the print server. Client machines connect to the print server and send pause commands to the queue. However if you print to another queue (such as a direct IP connection to the printer) with a similar connection to the printer the pause issue should not be there.
Sounds like the print queue you setup is corrupt on the print server. Setup a new print queue and see if the behavior persists. If not then keep the new one and remove the old one. Juggle around the print queues as necessary to refresh and rename them from there.

I just:
1) ...reset the printer to defalt settings
2) ...changed the printer to a new (unused) IP address on the network, and completed the setup with DNS/WINS/Domain info (using PCL 6.6.5 Universal Print Driver on Windows 2016 Std Sever).
3) ...tried to create a new printer using the new IP address.
Fail. Prints at the server still get sent to "Paused' status.
Checking and unchecking "Render this print job on the client's computer does not make a difference.
Am I missing something? By installing/unisnstalling this Printer Driver several times and naming it differently each time doesn't a new que get created every time?
Thank you for your reply.

uugghh...yes. I slaved this to a Win7 workstation via USB temporarily, and need to put out some fires right now but i'm sure this is the issue.
I can't believe I overlooked in in a frantic effort to get 20 hours of work done in a 10 hour day.
Thank you. I'll be back to give you well deserved Kudos after i get it working.
