LASERJET PRO MFP M127
Microsoft Windows XP

Until today, printer working normally. This morning when I tried to print, a screen appeared say I needed to first uninstall  and then reinstall program.

When I inserted disc when it got to Step 2 (connectd with product) it loaded 99% then another screen appeared saying it took too long to install start again. I tried 5 times each time with same result.

How can I complete installation when disc will not continue?

Hi TJPEER,

Thank you for your response!

The statement "installation disc does not start Windows XP" is just the title of the guide that I had used to find the steps above. You can ignore the statement, and just try the steps I had provided.

The driver downloads are available for Windows XP, as long as you are using Windows XP (32-bit) Service Pack 2, or Service Pack 3. http://www.whatsmyos.com.

If this helps, please consider clicking on 'accept as solution.' And, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hope this answers your question, and have a nice day! 🙂

Hi @TJPEER

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you are trying to install the software for your HP Laserjet Pro MFP M127 printer, on Windows XP. And, I am happy to help!

Please try the following solutions:

Solution one: Manually start the software installation disc

Follow these steps to manually start the software installation disc.

  1. Insert the installation disc into the disc drive.

  2. Click Start (), and then click My Computer.

  3. Click the CD/DVD drive, and then double-click the Setup.exe file to start the installation.

Solution two: Select Autoplay

Follow these steps after you insert the software installation disc.

  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer

  2. Right-click the CD/DVD drive, and then click Autoplay.

Solution three: Check if Auto-Run is enabled

Follow these steps to see if Auto-Run is enabled.

  1. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click System.

  3. Click the Device Manager tab.

  4. Click the plus sign next to CD-ROM Drive entries. Highlight the name of your CD-ROM, and right-click it, and then click Properties.

  5. Click the Settings tab.

  6. Select the box next to Auto Insert Notification.

Or

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type gpedit.msc.

  2. Click Administrative Templates under Computer configuration.

  3. Click System, and then click Turn off Autoplay.

  4. Right-click Turn off Autoplay, then click Properties.

  5. Under Setting, click Not Configured.

Solution four: Copy the files to the hard drive

Copy the contents of the HP software installation disc onto the root drive (in C:\ or 😧 \ of My Computer), and then install it from the hard drive location. The computer should have at least 2 Gigabytes of free hard disk space to copy the contents of the CD.

  1. Click Start and open My Computer or double-click My Computer on the Desktop.

  2. Double-click C:\ or D:\, assuming C: and 😧 are the computer hard drives.

  3. Right-click the empty pane in C:\ or D:\ of My Computer and select New. Then click Folder.

  4. A new folder is created. Rename the new folder HP Driver.

  5. Right-click Start and then click Explore to open Windows Explorer.

  6. Locate the CD-ROM drive letter in the left pane of the window and select it so that the contents are displayed in the right pane.

  7. Click Edit in the File menu, and then click Select All to highlight all of the files and folders.

  8. With the files still selected, click Edit and then click Copy.

  9. Close Windows Explorer. Open the HP Driver folder created in step 1, click Edit, and then click Paste to copy the files to the HP Driver folder on the hard drive.

  10. If while copying, a Cannot copy from source disk or drive or Cannot copy specified file error message is displayed, then check the functionality of the CD drive by using a different CD. If other CDs work correctly, it means there is an error reading the HP software CD.

Solution five: Check the disc drive, and then clean the installation disc

Make sure that the disc drive is working by inserting a music CD or video DVD.

  • If a different CD or DVD does run, clean the HP installation disc using a soft cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, and then try running it again.

  • If a different CD or DVD does not run, or the HP installation does not run after a cleaning, there is an issue with the disc drive or with the disc. Continue to the next solution to download the print driver and software from the HP website.

Solution six: Download and install the driver from the HP website

Follow these steps to download and install the driver from the HP website.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.

  3. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.

  4. If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.

  5. Click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.

The statement at the end of all the possible options "installation disc does not start Windows XP"

Does this imply that the disc no longer works with computers with Windows XP ?

Can downloads of installation of HP Laserjet Pro M127 be accepted by computers with Windows XP?

I tried all possible solutions regarding use of disc with same result....i.e. installation stalled at 99% saying installation not going fast enough.

If and when I upgrade to Windows 10, I will try download. In the meantime I cannot use printer!

In the meantime....thanks
