Got a M880 MFP here, and we used Google for sending emails. Since Google stopped support for less secure applications, we moved to Scaleway. That service supports SSL/TLS (465/2465), STARTTLS (587/2587), and even port 25! I could easily migrate everything we have here - most services worked well with port 587.
As you might have guessed, the printer does not accept the SMTP-server. It results in "General send to email error", which is not useful. If "Validate certificates for outgoing server connections" is on, then it gives "SMTP server or certificate error", which I find peculiar - maybe a hint?
What I've tried:
- Turned off IPv6
- Added 8.8.8.8 to secondary DNS, set the router to Google DNS (this is mentioned a lot, but seems to only work for a few)
- Used 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4.4 as DNS
- Upgraded to latest firmware
- Tried every secure port possible. The test-email gave the generic error in about 5 seconds, but sometimes it took about 20 seconds. It often takes longest on port 2465 - I assume that only STARTTLS is supported on this printer and therefore it takes longer.
- Tried insecure port 25. It gave "SMTP authentication error" - I assume this port is blocked by the ISP.
- Tried with and without TLS/SSL on all ports.
- Did a printer reset, and tried all of the above again. Got the same errors.
NTS/NTP gave an error: "Timeout waiting for response from server". After the printer-reset, that started working. Web services gives "Unable to contact HP Connected. HP Connected service may be affected."
To solve this myself, I need an SMTP-error-number, and not a generic "something went wrong"-error. So I hope somebody here knows something I did not try yet.
