Hello @StillInLine, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please let us know the printer's name and the model number along with the network setup of the HP device so that we can assist you further?

In the meantime, could you please try a few troubleshooting steps and let us know if it helps?

The “Load Tray 1” message usually appears when the paper size or paper type specified in the print job does not match the paper loaded in the printer. The following “Cleaning” message simply indicates that the printer is performing a brief self-maintenance cycle to help prevent print defects, such as smudging, and to clear any debris from the paper path.

To prevent this sequence from occurring:

  • Verify paper settings: Before printing, open the Print dialog box in your application (such as Word or Chrome) and confirm that the selected paper size (for example, A4 or Letter) and paper type (such as Plain Paper) match the paper loaded in the tray.
  • Check print driver settings: If you are printing on envelopes, labels, or a custom paper size, specify these settings in the HP print driver properties instead of relying on automatic tray selection.
  • Cancel or allow cleaning to complete: If you do not want the printer to perform the cleaning cycle, press the Stop or Cancel button on the printer control panel. Otherwise, allow the process to finish before sending another print job.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you so much for the response @StillInLine

Since the printer is configured for Letter, Plain paper (8.5 x 11 in, 20 lb) and you have already confirmed that Tray 1 contains the correct paper, the recurring "Load Tray 1" message before every print job suggests that the print job settings being sent from the computer are not matching the printer's default paper settings.

Let's verify the following:

  1. On the printer control panel, navigate to Tray Management and confirm that Tray 1 Size = Letter and Tray 1 Type = Plain.
  2. On the computer, open Printer Properties > Device Settings and ensure the default paper size is also set to Letter.
  3. When printing, click Preferences and verify that the application is not requesting a different paper size or paper type.
  4. Update or reinstall the HP Universal Print Driver or the HP Color LaserJet Pro M452-specific driver to rule out a driver configuration issue. - HP Color LaserJet Pro M452 series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

The cleaning message that follows is typically a maintenance cycle and is separate from the paper prompt. The primary concern is the printer repeatedly stopping at "Load Tray 1" and requiring you to press OK for every print job.

Have a great day!
