I am having problems with certificate and no clue why is not working correctly despite

- certificate is valid public certificate

- it is registered in the printer

- certificate provider (Comodo) is added to the printer (all certificates)

to be able to move forward I need to read the log but I do not know how to retrieve that log from the printer

thank you for any suggestions

https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/HowToObainLogsFromHpFutureSmart

This article covers obtaining logs from HP FutureSmart devices running the PaperCut embedded application. If you are running an HP Chai device see here instead.

  1. Log into the device’s web admin interface.
  2. Navigate to Troubleshooting → Retrieve Diagnostic Data.
  3. Select Create zipped debug information file.
  4. Uncheck Include crash dump files.
  5. Check Clean up debug information.
  6. Click Export.
  7. After a short wait a .jdp file should be offered for download. Save this file, being sure to maintain the original file name. This file is an encrypted log file using your device’s serial number as the key. The serial number is in the filename, hence why it is important not to rename the file.
  8. Send the .jdp file to us along with any relevant information:
    • Approximate date/time you performed the test.
    • Description of the problem, any errors that occurred, etc.
    • Details of the test, including at least the username.
    • Description of steps to reproduce the problem.

It sounds like the log files you are looking for are on the printers Embeded Web Server.  You need a network connection to the printer and admin credentials to access this troubleshooting/diagnostics area.

Hi John

thank you very much for the solution for my previous question, you have mentioned that log is encrypted.

How do I decrypt it and read? I am having more issues and wanted to check the log myself before asking for help

thank you

Marek

Thank you very much and excuse me if I am asking stupid questions but

if is encrypted is there tool to decrypt? if is not then what encryption is used guessing is not the preffered way as it may take very long time 🙂

thank you

Im guessing the deencryption tool is something that is owned by HP developers.  Since the .JDP contains potentially sensative information about your machine HP encrypts the file from the printer so that it is safe to transfer over the internet.  Of course I dont have any confirmation for this theory, they might not want the public to see the information that they are collecting from the machine either.

I was able to view a .XML of what I assume is the same data.  When you navigate to the EWS > Troubleshooting Tab > Diagnostic Data then simply check the radio button for create device data file instead of create zipped debug log.  Then the printer will generate the .XML file which can be viewed from a web browser.  Give that one a shot and see if it contains the info you are looking for.

Otherwise it seems like .JDP files are intended to be some kind of Java developer debugging file:

https://fileinfo.com/extension/jdp

That would suggest that you would need a java developing tool to be able to see and decrypt the contents correctly.  Once loaded into the correct environrment there would be some kind of decryption tool or mechanic that would prompt for the Serial Number of the file before someone could read the contents.

Hi John

thank you very much for prompt response. You right that this could be internal tool I could not find any information about it. In meantime I tried few different ways to decrypt and no luck.

Unfortunately xml has not the same data I did check that already. When JDP log is send to HP support they see some errors that I can not find in xml. Unfortunately sending log and getting response is taking very long and not always first response is the fix.

thank you anyway

I am writing this for others to benefit.

after search I have found that JetAdvantage is offering command line tool jedi-simulator that has to be used to decrypt the log file. After file is decrypted there is ordinary zip package that can be opened with any unzip tool. I use Izarc but checked two other and all is working well.
