HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M477fdn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My M477fdn is capable of duplex printing (that is why it is called M477fdn with a 'd'). When I print something from my iPad then it is printing on both sides indeed: one side is printed, then the paper comes out, is retrached again and the other side is printed.

If I print from my Windows 10 laptop in Word or Acrobat e.g. I can choose for double sided printing, but then it only prints twosided manually: one side is printed, the printer asks me to put the paper in the printer again and the other side is printed.

In the printer settings I see a tab called device settings. On that tab there is a setting called duplex unit, and a box 'Not installed'. The box is grey and I can't change it.

I'm sure I have the latest drivers installed.

Is there anyone who can tell me who to print duplex from my Windows laptop?

At the top of the list of installed devices there is an option called auto configuration.  That should poll the printer and refresh driver with correct settings. It may be greyed out if you do not have administration rights for the computer.

Thanks, it works now.

I didn't completely understood your solution but it pushed me in the right direction. I didn't had to (re)install anything with the following procedure, but the admnistrator role was the important thing:

1. Open the control panel (Configuratiescherm in Dutch)

2. Choose Display devices and printers  (Apparaten en printers weergeven in Dutch)

3. Double click on the printer you want to manage

4. You will get a window with the printer status; choose Printer (the first option from the menu)

5. Choose Open as administrator (<- that one did the trick!!!)

6. Again choose Printer and then Properties (Eigenschappen)

7. Choose the tab Device configuration (Apparaatinstellingen in Dutch)

8. The Duplex property is now not grey but accessible; change it in Installed.

9. Open a document with more than one page, print it double sided and ... smile!

Hope that others with the same question will benefit.

Kindest regards.
