If there is a missing color and replacing the cartridge does not fix the issue, most likely it is a problem with the High Voltage Power Supply.

I have a M553x that does not print the black color with either a B&W or a color print.  All other colors do print.  I have substituted the black toner cartridge and the fuser into another M553 and with that other printer everything is normal.  I have installed the same components from the known good printer into the questionable M553 and black color does not print.

You mention the high voltage power supply is bad.  There are two PCB's for the high voltage.  One is HVPS (D) PCA assembly and the other is HVPS (T) PCA assembly.  Which board is the cause of this failure?

It is probably the HVPS D.  D stands for Development and T stands for transfer.  When the HPVS-D is defective, there will be no primary charging bias or developing bias output for the missing color.

Thank you MiguelDA,

You have confirmed my rational.  I figured by studing the HVPS (D) that this board is the one with direct connection to each of the different toner cartridges via spring loaded contacts.  You can also see that there are distinct simular circuts on this board.  One for each cartridge; therefore, one circuit could be defective not allowing one cartridge to not function properly while the others work as they should.

The HVPS (T) must as you have pointed out, assist in the transfer of the toner to the paper.

I will order the HVOS (D), P/N RM2-7122-000CN and report the results.

MiguelDA,

I have replaced the HVPS (D) board in the HP Laserjet Enterprise m553 printer I am working on.  Well, things went from bad to worst.  Now, I get no transfer of any color to the paper at all.  There are no start up errors.  The paper does transport properly through the printer from paper tray to the output tray.

I did collect a "debug" (JPD) file, but have not fould a way to use it to anayze any problems.

Any ideas?

Does installing the original HVPS put the printer back in the original state? (only black missing).  Sounds like something went wrong during the HVPS replacement process.

JDP logs are for firmware issues and will not help in a hardware issue like this one.

MiguelDA,

Reinstalled the original HVPS.  Still no print output from any color.

Using the web connct to the printer, the "Device Status" page indicates each of the color cartridges at- Black, 90%; Cyan, 80%; Magenta, 90%; and Yellow, 90%.  Fuser Kit indicates OK.  I would believe this indicates communication with the system to the cartridges.

The Printer boots with no displayed errors in the display panel.

I do get some errors in the Event Log (see below).

For some reason I can't see your Event Log.  Could you please try to attach it again?

Hi @NailnHammer,

Before replacing parts, which usually take a lot more time, it is better to check simpler tasks first.

Not printing black and printing colours means that a spring contact with the black cartridge is probably not established correctly. I would check both the spring that sit and the rear of the printer (as you install the cartridges) and the little one that sit at the front near the front door. Check and/or enforce those springs. They must make good contacts with the metalic bits of the cartridge.

Also, when replacing a HVPS make sure that the springs make proper contact with the board. To check  that you must be able to see those springs through the corresponding holes in the HVPS board.

I hope that helps,

Cheers and good luck!
