Hi @bruce2012,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear your frustration. Installing new ink and still getting no results can feel like hitting a wall. Let’s troubleshoot this step by step so your printer works again:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure the cartridges are genuine HP and match your printer model (e.g., HP 950/951, HP 63, etc.).
  • If they’re Instant Ink cartridges, confirm your subscription is active.

2. Remove Protective Tape

  • Double-check that the orange pull tab and plastic tape covering the ink nozzles and contacts are completely removed.

3. Clean Electrical Contacts

  • Power off the printer.
  • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let them dry and reinstall firmly until they click.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Restart and check if the error clears.

5. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • From the printer menu or HP app, run a Print Quality Diagnostic or Align Printhead test.

6. Update Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
