P4515n
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I work with the P4515n LaserJet printer and it goes through this long noisy warm up process.  why is it doing this?  is there a setting to avoid this and allow printing more instantly?

This printer is a loud printer when printing at full speed. There was also a issue with some fusers where they take a long time to get warm so the feed mech just keeps on turning until the fuser reaches the correct temp at full speed. Two things you can try. To see if this is the issue open tray 2 and put paper on tray 1 (manual fold down tray above tray 2) and do a self test. If it prints ok without a long wait then the fuser is probably your issue. Now if that speed is ok for you, then your printer may have a setting under the setup menu to run the printer in quiet mode which will cause the paper tray to feed at the same slower speed of the manual feeder and will not need to get the fuser as hot as when in normal mode so it may work fine for you. If not then you need to replace the fuser. Now if you can not find quiet mode run a menu map and see if it is listed. If not then you will need to upgrade the firmware of the printer. Before upgrading the firmware remove any accessories you may have for the printer to include additional add on paper trays and duplex unit. There have been issue when the firmware is upgraded with these items where you loose access to them if they are attached during the firmware update. If you just have the plain P4515n without duplex and extra tray do not worry about it.
