HP Officejet Pro 8600
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

Good morning,

My printer won't scan anything through the the tray on top. I currently have an "HP Officejet Pro 8600" that I use for my mac. When I first set it up over 6 months ago I had no problem scanning anything through the tray on top but now after upgrading to Yosemite I have had nothing but problems. When I first installed Yosemite I wasn't able to print or scan but after fixing it with some updates I'm still not able to scan any documents through the tray only through the glass scanner I can scan things.

Any Ideas?

Also when I choose HP scan it wont let change the presets from pictures to documents until after I have scanned something through.

Hello @Picture-j and welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I'm sorry to hear you've been having issues, but I will certainly do my best to help with your OJ 8600!

To start, let's see if we can get that top tray (the ADF) to work through a Copy. Can you put a document (or a blank piece of paper to save ink if you don't need a Copy of anything) in the ADF and ask it to make a Copy. Does that work?

If it does, what happens when you try to scan using the ADF? Do you get an error? Do the wheels just spin? Let me know any details that may help 🙂

If that doesn't work either, it could very well be an issue with the hardware itself, and in that case, I'd suggest you try the steps within this The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Does Not Pick Up Paper document to clean the rollers and hopefully get it to pick up the paper.

Let me know how things go and we'll go from there!

Hi @Picture-j

It sounds like you need to change the Source selection in the scan software you are using. What program are you using to scan? I will happily do all I can to help.

I followed the steps with The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Does Not Pick Up Paper - cleaning the rollers and it fixed it. Thank you!

ENVY 76400 won't scan through tray.  It merely scans as if a document is on the glass.  The tray works just fine when I make a copy.
