HP officejet 3833
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I just bought the officejet 3833 for college and upon setup  I tried to connect it to my school's wifi, but it says it does not support WPA2 protected wifi. I tried using my phone's hotspot as well, but it did not work. Is there any way i can get my printer to function?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet 3833 All-in-One Printer and are unable to connect it to the wireless network. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

During my research, I found that the printer support WPA only.

Restore the network defaults:

Then follow the below steps to have the printer connected to the wireless network:

If the printer is unable to connect to the wireless network then please connect the printer via a USB cable to the computer and update the firmware. The firmware update can be downloaded and installed via this HP link

NOTE: The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware is installed.

After the firmware is successfully installed then once again run the wireless setup wizard on the printer.

You may also have the printer connected wirelessly without a router. Please refer to page # 87 - "Connect wirelessly to the printer without a router" from the user guide

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

All the best!
