When I send a document to print from computer, my HP Officejet 6700 Premium prints part of the first page, then pages and pages of black vertical lines or bar-code like streaks. Sometimes it prints one line of random characters per page until the paper tray is empty. I have reset the wireless router, unplugged and reset the printer multiple times. I need help getting this resolved.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂
Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that your HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer is facing printing issues. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Are you using original HP ink cartridges or refilled ink?
- Did this issue start after an update or a power outage?
- Is the printer able to make a photocopy successfully? If yes then it indicates that the printer and ink cartridges are all fine.
- Are you using Windows or the Mac OS?
While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
In case the issue persists while making a photocopy too then please perform the step 2, 3 and 4 from this HP document.
Also, you may update the firmware on the printer. The firmware can be downloaded and installed via the following links:
- Click here to download the firmware for the Windows operating systems.
- Click here to download and install the firmware update available for Mac OS X 10.11 and below.
NOTE: The printer needs to be restarted after the firmware update is successfully installed.
Hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know the outcome.
Cheers! 🙂
