Hello all,

I am getting an error message on my HP Officejet 8610. " There is a problem with the printer or ink system". I have tried reinstalling, updating software etc. But I am using brand new after market ink. I was able to print a test page but now I cannot. Does HP make you so exhausted , you just buy their overpriced ink?

Thanks,

Matt

Your 8610 is one of the few inkjet that can use non HP ink according to this paper

If you would like to remove the dynamic security feature, go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your printer to install the latest firmware version. See Update the firmware on an HP printer for more details. HP recommends you keep your firmware up to date for best results.

This should be the firmware

If you already have the 1910A version then possibly the problem is in the printhead / cartridge area

==>Debris such as glue / tape residue or dried ink in the electrical contact area of both printhead and cartridge<==
Official (HP) advice on printhead cleaning is here.
This link gives advice on cleaning the 8600 printhead and removal is described here.
This is another type of printhead cleaning, different from the above.

Cleaning and removing ink from the print head is shown below by our "Scullery" team.

An HP original video on how to clean the printheads by our experts. Yes, this can get messy, but it works. If your ink levels are good but you are printing blank pages then this is likely the solution.

Some printers have a printhead cleaning procedure

Spoiler
To clean the printhead on an HP printer, access the printer settings through the HP Smart app, navigate to "Print Quality Tools," and select "Clean Printhead"; this will initiate a cleaning cycle where the printer will automatically run a cleaning process to clear any clogs in the printhead. Wait 30 minutes between cleaning cycles if more than one is needed.

Inkjet and printhead cleaning kits are available

This video shows how to remove a printhead

Consumer inkjet printer printheads typically last for several years, with some lasting up to 10 years or even longer. However, the lifespan can vary greatly depending on usage, maintenance, and environmental factors.
