Hello,

Looking to start a thread on a particular topic regarding the HP Poly Studio A2.

We're looking to use and setup an HP Poly Studio A2 with three of its Poly table mics, alongside a Poly Studio V72.

I've been looking into the set-up guide and one part of the device that's not completely clear to me is the PoE Class switch in the front of the HP Poly Studio A2 device, as seen here:

https://docs.poly.com/bundle/poly-studio-A2-ag-current/page/poe-switch-selectable-power-class.html

In the cabling diagrams for various series of Poly units, such as the X series and V series (as well as G62), there is power sources shown for them. The HP Poly Studio A2 is shown to be powered by a non-classified PoE injector.

https://docs.poly.com/bundle/poly-studio-A2-ag-current/page/cabling-hp-poly-studio-a2-devices-with-p...

Based on the above table, does this mean that regardless of PoE class selected, the maximum table microphones will always be 8 and the only deciding factor for selecting a PoE class is the Source power and Device power?

If I'm using a PoE++ injector that supplies upward to 95W, would I need to select the PoE++ Type 4 Class 8 option on the HP Poly Studio A2 device?

What is the Device power referring to exactly? The overall power draw of the HP Poly Studio A2 when in this PoE++ Type 4 Class 8 option?

Thanks for any info and confirmations!

HP Support returned my call, and provided additional details that explains why the maximum microphone number is currently shown as 8 for all PoE class options:

It seems like as it stands, only up to 8 microphones are supported and certain HP/Poly conferencing endpoints support only up to 1-4.

Regardless, according to them the PoE class switch is there for future use, and the PoE+ Type 2 Class 4 switch position supports all of the above configuration options. Given the number of microphones.

Any corrections, please feel free to add, I think this could be marked as resolved otherwise!

Hello @EliasPAV ,

Welcome to the HP Poly community.

Usually working with a certified HP Poly supplier should be the right choice prior to implementing a solution.

From my personal understanding, if a Poly Studio V72 is being used the power supplied to the Poly Studio A2 is just PoE as nothing else is powered. The Poly Studio A2 setting would be the switch in Position A.

The other switch settings are for future solutions.

Hi Steffen!

Thanks for the reply!

I've reached out to HP Support on this and pending further info, as it stands the only possible answer I have regarding this PoE switch button is if it likely represents the overal power requirements for when a certain number of microphones are plugged in.

The documentation has a strange maximum microphone number per PoE class and device power.

The way I understood it, since if the HP Poly Studio A2 wouldn't necessarily know how many microphones are plugged in to each of its four ports, it stands to reason that the PoE switch would likely be adjusted based on the total microphones in-use.

If that's correct this is how I understood the PoE toggle switch, based off the original documentation and power usage:

PoE ClassSource PowerDevice PowerAudio BridgeMax Mics*Total Power
PoE + Type 2 Class 430W25.5W1824W
PoE++ Type 3 Class 545W40W11640W
PoE++ Type 3 Class 660W51W12252W
PoE++ Type 4 Class 890W71.3W13272W

*The above is for each microphone, 2W is used for each microphone according to documentation and 8W for each HP Poly Studio A2 audio bridge.

Perhaps you may be right, and this may be a placeholder for future solutions, but the documentation adds some confusion when the device power and number of microphones don't seem to correspond.

Any additional insight would be appreciated, and I'll be waiting for HP Supports further info.
