Quick question 😇

I cant grasp why the quite expensive polycom studio only works with usb and not through wifi or bluetooth when I want to use it as a webcamera for my window laptop. Usb seems very out dated in these days.

Can someone explain this to me?

I ask because I just started a company that has alot of these in the conference rooms - with usb cables everywhere and people complaining about loose cables etc.

If its only usb compaitble for video and audio, is there any solution we can buy - like a extra wireless sender to connect to it with the usb and then share it as a wireless camera to connect to our laptops? 🤔

Thank you for your help and time 🙏

Best regards,

Flamuren

Hello @Flamuren ,

welcome to the HP Poly community.

The Poly Studio USB in its current form is a 4k USB 3.0 Camera. It can use WiFi only for configuration via Poly Lens.

HP Poly does not manufacture an IP-capable Camera that can just be used by a Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac device.

Our Poly E70 camera is IP capable device compatible with a Poly G7500 as an example.

Best Regards

Hi @Flamuren

First of all - Bluetooth is not really meant for sending anything bandwidth intensive like a video stream 😉

As for the other part - there are solutions available, that let you connect peripherals like Poly Studio to you laptop wirelessly. One of companies which offers such solutions is Barco.

https://www.barco.com/en/product/clickshare-cx30-and-poly-studio-usb

There are also other vendors, that offer what you are looking for. You just have to do a little bit of searching.

And to be honest - from end user perspective Studio may seem to be expensive solution to you. But it really isn't, when you know VC market and how much those kind of devices can really cost. So - being on the cheaper side (really), you shouldn't expect those devices to have wireless streaming feature 😉

Many thanks for the answers 😊

Noted they bought these some year ago, and I started last month. Just had to ask since the device have wifi but was a bummer to only be for settings 🥲

I know they have the clickshare in some big conference rooms here. In my mind, having to buy camera + wireless config is a old kind of setup (like adapter for old cables etc 🙈). It should be integrated these days 😉 But if we upgrade this will be a deciding factor.

Any how much appreciated with the tips and info 🙏
