What’s new in this release

Poly TC5.0 is a dedicated operating system (based on the Poly VideoOS software) for Poly touch controllers. This initial release of Poly Touch Controller OS includes the following features for the Poly TC10:

  • Independent touch controller operating system
  • Microsoft Teams Panel in standalone mode on Poly TC10

NOTE: The initial release of the Poly TC5 PolyOS 5.0 runs on Poly TC10 only. Poly TC8 devices can be updated to the new operating system from release Poly TC5.1 onward.

Independent touch controller operating system

The Poly TC5.0 release marks the launch of a dedicated touch controller operating system. This new OS runs on Poly TC10, and any future Poly touch controllers.

Some Poly Touch Controller OS will still align with Poly VideoOS releases. However, Poly Touch Controller OS will also have additional independent releases to align our support with feature releases of our partners apps, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms.

NOTE: If you are using the touch controller to control a paired Poly video system, we recommend installing the TC software release that is bundled with the PolyOS version running on your video system.

Microsoft Teams Panel in standalone mode on Poly TC10

This release supports the Microsoft Teams Panel app in standalone mode on Poly TC10.

When you mount a Poly TC10 controller outside a meeting space, Poly TC10 in standalone mode running Microsoft Teams Panel provides the current room status, upcoming meetings, and options to reserve, check-in to, or release the meeting space.

Updating your Poly TC10 to Poly TC5.0

Updating your Poly TC10 differs depending on whether it’s new, out of the box, or it’s already been used with Poly Video OS.

IMPORTANT: Updating a Poly TC10 to Poly TC5.0 includes an Android 11 platform upgrade. This Android upgrade started with the Poly OS 4.1 release. This means that while you can downgrade your device from Poly TC5.0 to Poly OS 4.1.x, you can't downgrade to an earlier release, i.e., Poly OS 4.0 or older.

Once you update your device to Poly TC5.0, you can also update to future releases through the Teams Admin Center (TAC), in addition to updating via the local interface settings.

NOTE: A Poly TC10 running Poly TC5.0 is compatible as a paired controller with a 4.1.0 system.
Poly Support site software update URL

To receive software updates from Poly Support, your device must be able to access the following URLs. If necessary, update your firewall settings.

https://downloads.polycom.com/video/nextgen5 - if upgrading from an earlier version to TC5.0
https://swupdate.lens.poly.com/touchctrl/current - if upgrading from TC5.0 onward

NOTE: The software update URLs aren’t accessible using a web browser. Your system uses the URL to check for and download software updates directly from Poly.

Update a new device

Update a new Poly TC10 device to Poly Touch Control OS 5.0 using the update server.

  1. Connect the Poly TC10 device to power and internet using the POE port.
When the Poly TC10 starts, it searches for the latest software from the update server.

To update a legacy device:

  1. If paired, unpair the device from codec.

Once the system restarts up, the system displays an Update Available prompt. Make sure the update version is TC5.0.
  3. Select Update.
  4. To use Microsoft Teams Panel, select standalone mode.

Updating/Downgrading Software

Updating a Poly TC10 to Poly TC5.0 includes an Android 11 platform upgrade. This Android upgrade started with the Poly OS 4.1 release. This means that while you can downgrade your device from Poly TC5.0 to Poly OS 4.1.x, you can't downgrade to an earlier release, i.e., Poly OS 4.0 or older.
