Hey guys I have a Compaq A931NR and I have installed Windows 7 and upped the RAM to 4GB total. I am wanting to up the Processor and was told that 454322-001 Intel Celeron-M 550 processor - 2.0GHz (533MHz front side bus, 1MB Level-2 cache) was my only choice. Is this really my only choice? I have posted my everest report current processor info below. I am wanting this computer to run a lot faster and I am also using ReadyBoost. Is there anything you can recommend? I know I can up the hard drive also but that would only up the size not the speed cause it still would be 5400. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!!!!

As an upgrade the hard disk does not have to be a mechanical one. Upgrading to an SSD drive just about changes the character of a laptop. SSD drives have amazing access and seek times, use less energy and are silent. The lack of moving parts and lower energy use equates to a near silent and cooler running laptop.

My choice of SSD drive was an OCZ Vertex 64GB drive. I have not regretted it. The battery lasts quite a bit longer as well.
You are better off with the dual core processor that is install instead of changing to a Celeron processor. I will take a look to see what processors are compatible with your laptop.
Compatible processors (as listed by HP)
Intel Core Duo T5550 1.67-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache
Intel Celeron M 540 1.86-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 1-MB L2 cache
Intel Celeron M 550 2.00-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 1-MB L2 cache
Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.00-GHz processor (800-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache
Intel Core Duo T2310 1.46-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 1-MB L2 cache
Intel Core Duo T2330 1.60-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 1-MB L2 cache
Intel Celeron M 530 1.73-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 1-MB L2 cache
Intel Core Duo T5550 1.83-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache
Intel Core Duo T5550 1.67-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache

Hey,

I was wondering today ,

Is there anyway to update a DV9758CA 's processor to something faster ?

From a t5450 to a 5750? is that possible ?

Thxs,

Daveee

I don't see the t5450 listed in the manual as a part in the series. I note that the T5750 has the same core bus speed as the T5450 so it would probably work. However, I do not see the T5750 listed as a compatible part.

Which CPU do you recommend though because there are several ones? Also when you Google  T7250 processor you can find it much cheaper than searching by part #456965-001. Must I buy that exact part number or are all T7250 processors from Intel the same? I found the same when I was searching for another processor. Basically can I Google Intel 7250(seems fastest and best processor to me??) and buy one that I find from anyone at a price I like??

Erico,

So what I was referring to was something like this processor for my compaq a941nr. Will this one work for example and be my best colution

I would look at this one instead.

Intel Core Duo T5550 1.83-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache, includes replacement
thermal material)

Intel Core Duo T5550 1.83-GHz processor (533-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache, includes replacementthermal material).

You can purchase one of these wherever you wish. Make sure that the number and specifications are identical.

The reason that I suggest this one is that the FSB  (533 MHz) matches that of your installed memory modules and it is listed as compatible by HP in the service and Maintenance guide.

The one you asked about has a higher speed  FSB (800 MHz) and that might give you some compatibility problems. There is not enough difference in processor core speed that you would even notice.

Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC , model dv9834ca with Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     T5550  @ 1.83GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz.  Can I upgrade this CPU to 2.4 or better?

Thank you

There are no other CPU's listed with matching FSB (667 Mhz) or die size (65nm) that are guaranteed to work. It is a matter of BIOS support. You can try a faster CPU but the risk that it will not work is great. The other problem is that the memory speed should also be the same as the CPU  core speed.  If you had ordered a CTO model, all (motherboard, CPU and memory) would have been matched at assembly stage before delivery.

sorry to be the  bearer of bad news.

I started a separate thread, but I figured this would be the place to ask.

I have a Pavilion dv5218nr

M current specs are a Celeron M 410 (1.46/1/533)

It says it is a socket 479.

I was wondering what the best available option is for a processor upgrade for my laptop would be?

I looked into it some and I found the Intel Core Duo T2600.  Is that viable?

thanks

-Chris

Yes. It is a supported processor for your laptop.

Any processor in the following list is supported by the system board chipset and BIOS in your laptop.

Intel Core Duo T2600 2.16-GHz processor

Intel Core Duo T2300E 1.66-GHz processor

Intel Celeron M 410 1.46-GHz processor

Intel Core Duo T2050 1.60-GHz processor

Intel Core Duo T2250 1.73-GHz processor

Intel Core Solo T1350 1.86-GHz processor
