Hi -

I have had several problems with this printer going back about a month and a half ago starting with a clogged yellow nozzle. After several deep cleans I finally got that problem fixed but this morning I printed a few docs without a problem then after the first page of a doc the display showed the error. When this happened I was printing by way of WiFi from my Windows laptop (Windows 7 Pro). I can't print from my iMac either. Trying the Finding & Fixing Problems online tool, everything checks out except Device Status (yellow error message). When I try to print a test page from my laptop I get a Problem with Printhead error there as well.  I know more info will be needed by whoever trys to help me, so please let me know what you need to help. Thank you.

Someone from HP sent me a private mesage on this telling me an appropriate solution for this problem will not be found in the forums but by calling US/Canada Tech support. When I called, I was immediately told the printhead will need to be replaced and go to my local store. I told him I don't even think there is an HP store where I live. He then told me a tech would need to call me but he hung up before I could give him my number. I called back and spoke to a different person who took my number and said he'd give the info to the first person I spoke to (but the only name I was give was a first name). No one has called me? This is looking to be a terrible experience!

Hi @TigerJon73,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with your printer’s Printhead errors. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or Surge?
  • Do you receive ink system error messages also?

For now, Let me keep you posted about a few things here.

  • HP technicians will not send you private messages unless it is a private message sent to you in response to your message on HP forums or other Social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter where you might have posted your query.
  • The person who sent you a private message may be an imposter or it could be a Hoax to mislead you.
  • Please don’t respond to these private messages sent to you without your first public or private response.
  • This may be a hoax also. If you have sent a private or public message first and then received the response from an authentic HP Social Media representative, then this message could be valid.
  • Please check the veracity and authenticity of this message before proceeding,

Now If you’ve followed all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2tyUg79 to fix such related issues (HP Printers - Printhead Problem, Ink System Failure, '0x...' Error Displays), then let me tell you upfront that the Printhead on this printer is not a removable one. Which makes me more suspicious about this message that you received or the person that you interacted with.

If you’ve performed all the steps and the problem still persists then the printer has a hardware issue and needs to be replaced by contacting HP phone support. HP technicians usually will not refer you to a local store in scenarios like these. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

I will also send you a private message to contact HP and check your HP forum private message in this regard. It works if you reside in the US or Canada. If the link on the public post does not take you to HP tech support, the private message that I will send you with their direct helpline will.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

David,

I appreciate your response. I have not tried the steps prescribed in your link yet but will this weekend. I am almost positive my printer is out of warranty as it’s about 3 years old. Hearing that this printer does not feature a removable printhead is very upsetting because I now have a very large paper weight and am relegated to buying a new printer. This is the second HP printer I’ve owned within the last 10 years and both have now had printhead issues leading to the need to purchase a new printer. If that is the case this time around I most certainly will not purchase another HP (printer or any other product for that matter). Thank you for your advice.

Hi @TigerJon73,

I reviewed your super quick response. I understand precisely where you come from. You've displayed some fabulous troubleshooting skills, immense patience coupled with great persistence to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

  • Please try the steps and let me know how things pan out. I would like to keep you posted about a few things here.
  • Each printer is designed and tested by HP stringently keeping the customer in mind.
  • Then it is released in the market for customers to buy the product. The normal shelf life of a printer is about 3 to 4 years.
  • Later due to the stresses and wear and tear involved it begins to fail.
  • This is across brands usually. If you've had 2 printers that have failed in 10 years then these printers have lasted their longevity.

  • Having said that I understand precisely where you come from. I don't live in Bill Gates' neighborhood and know what you mean. I would still request you to try these steps and check what happens.
  • If the problem persists, then you could try these options if you choose to do so.
  • One is to contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced or contact HP shopping to order a new printer via this link: http://hp.care/2rQLe1b to get a year's warranty on the printer.
  • Also, HP phone support might have some great deals going for you.

Now, trust me I've done all I can to assist you by keeping your best interest in mind.I hope things work great for you. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you and a genuine pleasure to have work with you.:)

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care, stay healthy, keep smiling big and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Cheers!

I can’t believe HP designs a printer like this to last only 3-4 years. First, that further supports my decision to avoid HP products in the future. Second, I can imagine what nice things designing a big hunk of plastic and God knows what else to only last for 4 years is doing for the environment. Lovely.
