I'm trying to print on A5 regular paper but even tho in the app it looks sized correctly edge to edge, the print is always small and favoring a corner. I'm trying to print from my ipad withing the hp print app. I can't seem to find any information on how to print on this paper to get it to fill the whole page. The paper settings are all correct, the size it detects is 5.7in (the specific size is 5.83x8.27 but I can't seem to add a custom size). When I print on letter sized paper it correctly prints edge to edge, just not on the A5 paper.

Welcome to the HP Community.
Most or all of the printers in this series:
- Do not support Borderless Printing
- Do require a larger print margin along the bottom edge
For example
HP DeskJet 2720 All-in-One Printer
Product Specifications for the HP DeskJet 2720 All-in-One Printer (3XV18B)
and
Borderless Printing | No |
Print Margin Bottom (A4) | 12.7 mm |
Print Margin Left (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Right (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Top (A4) | 3 mm |
OK -
What if your printer does support Borderless?
For example, You know this to be true because you can print Borderless on 4x6 inch Photo paper...
What if the A5 paper does not print as you expect?
Even for printers that support Borderless
AND
Assuming the printer does not enforce the larger margin on the one side,
then
Even so...
Not all paper sizes and paper types are supported for the Borderless option.
That means: If a printer does support borderless, it may only do so for certain sizes and types of paper.

It's difficult to provide an example -
What you are trying to do is perhaps not within the capabilities of the printer series.
That said,
If it can be done,
Recheck the setup for Transform > Size / Resize options > Fill Page
Reminder:
HP Smart Mobile requires that the paper size / type be selected before the item to be printed is opened.
If the size you need is not listed, try setting the size to Custom (see example)
Example - Retain / Modify / Check Paper Size / Type - Tray and Paper Management

Example - HP Smart Mobile - Print Photos > Open Image file > Print icon > Transform > Fill Page
