- Does this printer have any type of gear timing. Printer carrier gets stuck on right. On start up it moves left & right as normal but on last scan it gets stuck. It seems like the carrier doesn't know the home position.

I have gone through your Post and I understand your concerns
Please perform a printer reset and ensure the printer has the latest Firmware
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Thank you for your suggestions, but they didn't work. I tried all these steps now & before. Again the problem is after start up the carriage moves to the right & is jammed . I'm not able to move it at all. I am a retired tech & worked on printers for many years. I have tried to find a Service Manual so I can check the operation. I feel the machine is out of timing or the carriage does not know the home position. I would appreciate it if you could give some real advice. I am repairing this for an old customer of mine. Thank you

Since the carriage is still jamming, this is a Hardware issue. I suggest you contact HP Support for Service Options
