Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 7640 Printer. I understand that you are unable to print from iPhone after iOS 11 update and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.
Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.
You can try using the Wi-Fi direct feature on your printer to connect the printer directly to the iOS device. Connect your Apple iOS device directly to the printer with Wi-Fi Direct or HP wireless direct as suggested below:
-
On the printer, make sure a solid blue light is on next to the Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct button
or an Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct
icon displays on the control panel.
-
Press the Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct button or navigate the control panel menu settings to find and touch Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct.
-
On your Apple iOS device, tap Settings, and then tap Wi-Fi.
-
Under the Choose a network menu, select your printer. The printer name begins with DIRECT.
If prompted, type a password. The default password is 12345678.
Now, try the steps below to print:
- In the app that you want to print from, tap the Action icon (
or
) to display the menu options.
- Tap Print. The Printer Options menu displays.
- On the Printer Options menu, tap Select Printer. A list of available printers on the network displays.
- Tap your HP ePrint printer in the drop-down menu. The Printer Options menu displays again and shows your selected printer.
- If you do not need to change print options, tap Print to send the print job to the HP printer.
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers.

I had the same problem. Once I installed iOS11 I could not print. I followed all of the steps offered and once I turned off my router, turned off my printer, turned off my iPadand then turned them all back on, I had one successful printing and then nothing. What I finally discovered is that once I chose something to print, found the printer on my network, and hit the print button...if I then turn off my iPad the document will print. I think there’s some problem with my ipad trying to log on to the printer to complete the task. I noticed that instead of showing my WiFi router in utilities, my iPad was trying to connect printer and it was hanging everything up. Hope this helps...it’s very frustrating but maybe a bug in iOS 11.

I had the same problem, in another thread here a reply that helped was to make sure the printer firmware was up to date, reconnect it to the WiFi router, with your phone and pad off, force restart each one and try to print. Yesterday I could not print a thing, I saw that note this morning, forced restarted everything and could print again as usual. I will wait to see how long it lasts but I hope it has been solved.

Did you do a firmware update? I also did all the reboots, but printing only worked one time. That’s when I noticed that my iPad was trying to connect to the printer as a WiFi server. I shut off iPad and boom...the printer starts up. I’m okay with doing that but it would be nice if I didn’t have to.

I don’t think I did anything with the firmware. I did reconnect it to the router. The only thing I did differently today was to force restart my phone and pad after the printer was on. As of tonight, I can still print from both my phone and pad. So, so far so good.
