I am a truck driver with an HP P1102W printer, an iPad 2, iPhone 6 and an HP Laptop.   I need to AirPrint to the printer.

All the help info I have found says to connect to a wireless network.  I have no network.  I have the IOS devices, laptop  and printer, that is all.

Up to now I have been emailing my printer material to my laptop then printing directly.  The problem is there is often no internet available to send info to my laptop.

how do I setup this network and what do I need to make this work?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

thx

Please try to use Apple Store and install HP ePrint app then try again (nit AirPrint, use HP ePrint app).

Regards.

Hi,

From its specs:

         http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce658a.pdf

It supports Direct Printing from mobile devices. It also supports AirPrint. Please try the general setup:

          http://www.howtogeek.com/181594/how-to-print-from-an-ipad-iphone-or-ipod-touch/

or using HP setup (section #2):

I'm sorry, I didn't make it clear.   I can't print, it won't print.  The IOS devices do not see the printer.  I have had the printer for over 2 years and have never been able to AirPrint to it... I have followed every forum but they all talk about connecting thru a wireless network.   I don't have one in the truck.  How do I and what do I need to make this work?

You need a printer that offers "Wireless Direct".  This is a built-in option that turns the printer into a "wifi hotspot".

Your printer might not have this. See if you can find settings to enable "Wireless Direct" on the printer.

Are you staying at a hotel?  Many offer email printing these days...

The specs page I was viewing makes no mention of this printer having wireless direct, just "Wireless" capability.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-LaserJet-Pro-P1102-Printer-series/4110394/model/4110306/docum...

You have found a different set of specs (from the store?). Hopefully they are right!  (The footnotes also stated "a firmware upgrade may be needed for some models of the P1102W)

@Robbo100 Can you find the following on your printer?

"On the printer control panel, touch the HP wireless direct icon ), or navigate to the Network Setup or Wireless Settings menu and touch Wireless Direct, and then turn on the connection."

Give Banhien's suggestion about using the ePrint app a try!  Look for a WiFi network with the name of the printer, and connect to it.

I'm a long haul truck driver.  I'm out on the road for 4-6 weeks s a time.  I need to print logs on a daily basis as well as other customs and border paperwork.  I have a Verizon jet pack that creates a wifi hotspot but some of the time there is no internet to connect to so I need to print directly from my iOS device rather than off my laptop.

The HP P1102W printer has a on off button and one other that is it.   There is no touch display or any display at all.   The firmware and all other software is up to date.   The apple eprint app is installed and it is asking that I restart the router which I do not have.  It does not see the printer either.

Sir, after many frustrating months with this issue, I can now print via the eprint app.   I tried before with no success but today we have joy, it works.

I can't tell you how great fuel I am.   Life is good.  Thank you Sir and have a great day.

It would help others with the same issue if you could explain how you fixed the issue!   Thanks!
