HP Envy 5530
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My wife's Samsung Galaxy S6 suddenly cannot connect with our Epson Envy 5530 printer using the HP plugin or the Samsung print plugin after choosing one and turning the other off. It sees the printer and shows ink levels but when the print command is given it flashes the print page momentarily on the phone screen and then swipes off the screen with the line, "authentication error". My Android 9 tablet has no problem. Tried rebooting the printer and reinstalling the plugin but the problem persists.  How can I correct this error? Thanking anyone who can help in advance.

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there seems to be an issue with the authentication error.

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

1) Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi.
2) Open "Settings".
3) Select "About Phone".
4) Check for updates. If there are any updates available, click on "Install" and reboot the device.

Also, try clearing the print spooler -

1) On your Android device, tap the Settings icon, and then select Apps or Applications.
2) Select Show System Apps.
3) Scroll down the list, and then select Print Spooler.
Depending on your Android device, tap Storage, and then select Print Spooler.
4) Select Clear Cache and Clear Data.
5) Open the item you want to print, tap the menu icon, and then tap Print.
A print preview screen displays.
6) Next to Select a printer, tap the down arrow to view the printer list and then select your printer.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.

Did all you suggested and the printer page still flashes momentarily and then leaves the phone screen. My Android tablet on the other hand works. It has to be the phone. I'm not sure either why at one point I saw the Authorization Error as the phone to printer connection had been working for some time. "Auto Connect" does not seem to be doing the job either. The phone works fine off our WiFi for everything else. If it's in a phone setting I confess I have no idea where to go as I believe I've exhausted all options. I'm going to try rebooting the wifi modem next as I have not done that yet. Please comment and let me know if you received this message. John

Hi there, thanks for getting back to us. What type of documents are you trying to print? Where are the documents located?

I'd suggest you try printing using the HP Smart app to see if this works - HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App

Let me know.

Downloaded the HP Smart app which required the HP plugin which I'd used before and it was all dejevu. Still looking for a password for which neither my wife nor I have a clue. Is there a place to reset the password for my wife's phone that won't mess up my Android tablet? I'll be very happy when this is finally solved. John
