HP OfficeJet Pro 8620

Hi Team,

I'd really appreciate some help here... I'm happily using hpeprint to forward email messages with attachments to my OfficeJet Pro 8620 printer for these to be printed. Works great!

Now I've tried to take it to another level and I've setup some auto-forwarding rules for certain emails I receive from suppliers that include invoice attachments. Such emails are being correctly sent to hpeprint to the exact same address I can send them to manually, but they don't print... 😞

In fact, I receive an error email notification with the subject "ePrint Error". The body of the message reads:

"Thank you for using HP's ePrint service. Your print job was received, but could not be printed.

ePrint Error
The ‘TO’ or ‘CC’ field of the email you sent did not include a printer email address.

For additional ePrint troubleshooting information, see this support page: www.hp.com/go/eprinthelp

HP Connected account owners can turn off ePrint job status emails at www.hpconnected.com. NOTE: HP Connected is not available in all regions. Sign into your account at www.hpconnected.com, select the “Settings” button for your printer on the Devices tab, enable the “Allowed Senders Only” option in printer settings, and remove the checkmark from “Enable email notifications for ePrint activity” option. NOTE: This option is not available in regions where HP Connected is not available."

And yes, I have gone through the troubleshooting options, but to no avail.

So, just to recap: If the email is forwarded by automatic rule, it doesn't print.

The auto-forwarded and manual emails both have the correct email address in the To: field. As such, the error message doesn't quite make sense.

Why would the auto-forwarded one not print while the manually forwarded one prints perfectly fine?

Thanks in advance for any assistance to resolve this issue.

Cheers

Mark 🙂

Thank you for your suggestion, sandytechy20. I called HP phone support and Lance was amazing. He spent nearly an hour with my trying to resolve this. In the end it turned out that it was all to do with the fact that in order to automatically forward messages from Gmail to another address, i.e. by filter rule, not just manually, the receiving address needs to confirm willingness to receive these messages by entering a validation code. As there is no way to log into an inbox for the printer address, there was no way to obtain this validation code that would have been sent to the address. As such, the filter rule could not process the auto-forwarding. That was pretty much a dead-end at that point.

I decided to ring Google G Suite support [I run a G Suite Business account for my business] and asked them if they could retrieve the verification code, which turned out to be another "no". BUT...

The Google support staffer was able to walk me through a few steps in the admin console where I was able to setup "content compliance" rules that achieved the desired outcome, i.e. incoming emails from certain senders to certain accounts in my business that contained specified subject lines, to be auto-forwarded to another email address, i.e. my HP printer.

And it works! It's not completely "straight-forward" but here you go:

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your call today. I understand that you need to forward certain mail received by some of your "yourdomain.com" users.

I advised you to setup a content compliance. For more information please visit https://support.google.com/a/answer/1346934?hl=en. Sign in to admin.google.comFrom the dashboard, go to Apps > G Suite > Gmail > Advanced settings. Scroll down to the Content compliance section and select Configure or Add another. Use the following settings:

1. Email messages to affect, select Inbound and Internal - receiving

2. Add expressions that describe the content you want to search for in each message
-Select ‘if ALL of the following match the message’
-then use the add button to add the following 3 expressions

i) Advanced content match, Location: Sender header, Match type: Contains text, Content: [enterthesendersaddress]
ii) Advanced content match, Location: Recipients header, Match type: Matches regex, Content:

(\W|^)(user1|user2|user3)@convergence\.co\.nz(\W|$)

iii) Advanced content match, Location: Subject, Match type: Contains text, Content: [enterthedesiredsubject]

3. If the above expressions match, Also deliver to, Add more recipients, enter the email address that the mail is going to be forwarded to

You're welcome...  🙂
