I have had no problem in the past using the HP Smart Fax but for the last two days I cannot attach any file.

When clicking on attach it takes a long time and then says can't attach due to wrong file type.

I get the same result on both my Windows 11 PC and my Android mobile and with different types of files.

Hi @blondcb,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with attaching files using HP Smart Fax on both your Windows 11 PC and Android mobile, and you've confirmed that the file types are correct, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Update HP Smart App: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on both your PC and Android device. Check for updates in the respective app stores.
  • Check File Types: Make sure that the files you are trying to attach are in supported formats. Common fax file formats include PDF, TIFF, and JPEG. Check the file types and convert them if necessary.
  • File Size: Confirm that the file size is within the acceptable limits for faxing. Large files may take longer to process and may encounter issues. Try attaching smaller files to see if the problem persists.
  • Internet Connection: Ensure that you have a stable and reliable internet connection on both your PC and mobile device. A slow or unstable connection could result in issues with file attachments.
  • Clear App Cache: If you're using the HP Smart app on your Android device, try clearing the app cache. This can be done through the app settings on your Android device.
  • Reinstall HP Smart App: Uninstall the HP Smart app from both your PC and Android device, and then reinstall it. This can help to resolve any software glitches that may be causing the issue.
  • Check HP Smart Fax Service: Ensure that the HP Smart Fax service is running properly. You may need to check the settings within the app to confirm that the fax service is set up correctly.

Remember to check the HP Smart app's documentation or support resources for any specific information related to the app version you are using.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
