HP Envy 7640 printer
iOS 12 - 12.0.1

I used to be able to print 2 sided documents from my iPad and now can not. I thought it was the printer but I still can from my HP laptop so it must be something with the iPad. I have a new iPad but it didn’t print 2-sided from the old one. Both have the current updates.

Also, the font is too large.

Hi @Stown3,

A warm welcome to HP Community!

It's possible that two sided printing is disabled, let's try enabling two sided printing. Here is how to do it:

If you are printing using AirPrint, use the steps below to enable two sided printing:

1.) Open the document you want to print, and then tap the Share icon  or  .

2.) Tap Print or the Print icon .

3.) On the Printer Options menu, tap Select Printer, and then select your printer from the list.

4.) Touch Options and enable Double-Sided

If you are using HP Smart App, then use the following steps to enable two sided printing:

1.)  Open HP Smart App, touch Print Document.
3.) Select the document that you want to print.
4.) Touch the Settings icon located on top right.
5.) Scroll the icons at the bottom from right to left to view more options, then select Two Sided.

Updating the printer firmware, iPad and then adjusting the font size on your iPad should resolve the font issue. Let's try these steps:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and iOS is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer and iOS:

Update printer firmware

Update software on iOS

Use the steps available here to adjust the font size on your iPad and the try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

I haven't tried the fix to change the font size yet but I wanted to respond to the first issue.

I am able to select to print 2- sided (in the printer options I toggle it to do so) but it still doesn't print on both sides. I was able to in the past. Regardless of selecting 2-sided printing, it still prints on 2 separate pages.

Any ideas what to do next?

Could you try a double sided Copy and let me know the results. Instructions on how to make a double sided copy can be found here
