I removed my HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw from my HP Smart account and re-added it. Now it says my custom ePrint email address is already in use.
I re-enabled Web Services and tried everything I could find online. The issue happened on the last day of my warranty, on a weekend, so I couldn’t contact support.
Is there any way to reclaim the email address now, or am I stuck waiting 6 months?

@LadyofLA, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble reclaiming your custom HP ePrint email address after removing and re-adding your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw to your HP Smart account. This issue is relatively common when removing a printer without first disabling Web Services, which can cause the ePrint address to remain reserved.
Here's how you can try to reclaim your custom ePrint email address:
Step 1: Remove Web Services Again
- On your printer’s control panel, go to Setup (the gear icon).
- Navigate to Web Services Setup > Remove Web Services.
- Confirm to remove. Wait a minute.
Step 2: Re-enable Web Services
- Return to Web Services Setup > Enable Web Services.
- Follow the prompts to reprint the printer info sheet with the new ePrint email assigned.
At this point, the printer is re-registered, but with a new random ePrint email address.
Step 3: Try Reclaiming Your Custom Email
- Open HP Smart and sign in with the same HP account used earlier.
- Go to your printer's settings page.
- Click Settings > ePrint Address > Change Address.
- Try typing in your old custom address.
- If it's available, you can reclaim it immediately.
- If you get the “already in use” error, the address is still held in reserve.
If You Get the “Already in Use” Message
Unfortunately, once a custom ePrint email is released, it is locked for approximately 6 months and cannot be reclaimed by anyone including the original owner.
Additional Tips:
- Avoid removing Web Services unless necessary. If you must, always disable Web Services first to release the ePrint email properly.
- Consider using a similar custom email address temporarily if waiting 6 months isn't feasible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
