I'm new to wireless printing. When I go into the HP smart app and I want to change the paper size and type, I get no options at all, except for plain letter 8.5 x 11. There is an option to click on photo but that just takes me to a blank page.
Thank you for any help! I don't want to keep wasting my photo paper.

Hi @SpringLelah74,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Use the Print Dialog Settings Instead
- Instead of using HP Smart, print directly from your app (e.g., Photos, Microsoft Word, etc.).
- Go to File > Print > Printer Properties (or Preferences) and look for Paper Size & Type options.
Manually Select the Paper Type in HP Smart
- In the HP Smart App, go to Print > Advanced Settings (or Printer Properties).
- Try selecting Media Type: Photo Paper manually.
Load the Paper Correctly
- Ensure the photo paper is in the right tray (if your printer has multiple trays).
- Place the glossy side facing down in the input tray.
Update Printer Drivers & HP Smart App
- On your phone or PC, update the HP Smart App from the App Store or Microsoft Store.
- If using a PC, update drivers from HP Support.
Check Printer Firmware
- Open HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Update Printer to install any firmware updates.
Try Printing from a Different Device
- If you're using a phone, try using a computer instead.
- On a PC, use File > Print > Printer Properties to check for missing options.

Thank you, that helped. Now for the second issue, for some reason I always get an automatic white border and it's not even centered correctly. I can change fit to page/fill the page but I can't choose borderless. Does it make a difference if I print from my computer or my phone?

Hi @SpringLelah74,
Yes, printing from a computer vs. a phone can make a difference in borderless printing options. Here’s how to fix the issue:
1. Enable Borderless Printing (PC)
Open the document/photo you want to print.
Go to File > Print and select your HP printer.
Click on Printer Properties (or Preferences).
Look for Paper/Quality or Advanced Settings.
Find Borderless Printing and enable it.
Set the correct paper size (e.g., 4x6, 5x7, or A4) and paper type (e.g., Glossy Photo Paper).
Click OK and print.
2. Enable Borderless Printing (HP Smart on Phone)
Open the HP Smart App.
Select Print Photos and choose your image.
Tap Print Settings.
Look for Borderless Printing (this option may be under "More Settings").
If available, enable it and print.
I hope this helps.
