I cannot airprint from my HP6500a. It tells me it is connected to the wifi and the blue wifi light is on but my iPad and iPhone cannot discover it as a printer.

It seems to be a lack of harmony between router, AirPrint (bonjour) and HP.  Had the same problem but may have found the solution.  See:

I found on my router  (Asus RT-AC3100) the key setting seemed to be IGMP snooping.  Setting this to Enable has solved it for the last six hours or so, which is longer than AirPrint has ever been stable.  You’ll probably have to hunt around to find this setting on your specific router.  Recommend rebooting the router afterwards.  Hope this helps.
