Just got this HP Color Laser Jet Pro M281fdw printer today and trying to set it up on WiFi Direct to my new HP Laptop Envy 17 Touch Windows 10 Pro. When trying to print from laptop --nothing--and status says offline. When
Have read WiFi Direct Guide and followed directions ( or so I though) and still nothing. Wireless Test Report under troubleshooting said radio was turned off-corrected that to on-still nothing. Network Summary for WiFi Direct status: Enabled, Connection method=Automatic & lists IP Address, WiFi Direct Password. Wireless Configuration status: Not Connected/ wireless=ON. I do not have a router and limited data plan hence not wanting to completely connect by wifi. Any and all help to get this connected and up and running will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you'll !

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer and it does not connect via Wifi Direct. I have read your post comprehensively and appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
Following are the reasons why the Wifi Direct to not work:
- If the printer is connected to another wifi network then the printer does not connect to the Wifi Direct.
- The printer should not be connected via USB to the computer.
Looks like the printer is connected to a wifi network therefore suggest you to disconnect the printer from the wifi network and then try to connect via Wifi Direct.
Please refer to this HP article to connect and print using the Wifi Direct.
Hope this helps. Let me know. Good luck! 🙂
