I am trying to print from my mobile iPhone from Dropbox.   The request goes to printer but I get a message saying Tray 1 is empty.   There is only one tray for this printer.  It is a HP printer Laser Jet pro MCP 3301.  How do I correct this?

I understand you are getting tthe message "Tray 1 is empty" on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 could be due to incorrect tray settings or a misconfiguration between the printer and the mobile app. Since the printer has only one tray, it's likely an issue with how the print job is being sent or the printer's default tray settings. Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Steps to Resolve:

Check Paper in the Tray:

  • Ensure that the tray is properly loaded with paper.
  • Verify that the paper is aligned correctly and the tray is securely inserted into the printer.

Set the Default Paper Tray:

  • Access the printer's control panel or embedded web server.
  • Go to Settings > Paper Handling.
  • Ensure the default tray is set to Tray 1 (or the only tray available).
  • Save any changes.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart App or visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware.

Verify Paper Size and Type:

  • On your printer, ensure the paper size and type match the settings in the print job.
  • On the iPhone, check that the document's paper size matches the loaded paper size (e.g., A4, Letter).

Check Mobile App Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart App on your iPhone.
  • Ensure the app is correctly configured to print from Tray 1.
  • If you're printing directly from Dropbox, make sure the app doesn't have specific tray settings that conflict with the printer.

Clear and Re-Send the Print Job:

  • Cancel the current print job from the printer's display or through the app.
  • Restart the printer.
  • Resend the print job, ensuring you select the appropriate paper tray (Tray 1).

Factory Reset the Printer (if needed):

  • If the issue persists, perform a factory reset on the printer to restore default settings:
    • Access the printer's menu, navigate to Settings > Restore Factory Defaults.
    • Reconfigure the printer after the reset.

Test Printing from a PC:

  • To rule out mobile app issues, try printing a document from a Windows 10 PC. This can help determine if the problem lies with the iPhone/Dropbox setup or the printer itself.
