Having retried the claim codes again, HP said they will replace the printer under warranty, and I should have the new one next week.

Hopefully that will work !

Well, replacing the printer hardware makes as much sense as anything else.   I certainly hope that ends up resolving the problem.

Received new printer today, and successfully added the printer using the claim code that it generated first time.  Tested it and it worked.

Then went to update the firmware, and the printer crashed out with a strange error display on the printer's screen during the firmware upgrade.

See attached photo.

I then recalled that the old printer had done that, and wonder if the fact that it is bombing out during the upgrade is causing the original problem.  I do know that interupting a firmware upgrade is never a good thing !

Now that I have it working with the EWS and claim code I am reluctant to try again to see if the firmware error is the root cause.

I will just keep calm and carry on.
