Chromebook support

Have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 which works fine and cooperates with MOST every device in our household - until recently.  Bought a new Acer Chromebook and have spent several hours visiting the hp support site in search of a compatible app which will allow the Chromebook to connect to the printer, but not having much luck.  Chromebook and printer are on the same wireless network.  Was able to get the Chromebook to recognize the printer via USB, but it won't print either way.

Appreciate any support the community can lend.
