HP Deskjet 3000 J310 series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP HP Deskjet 3000 J310 series printer that I use with a Linux computer and a Windows computer.

It worked fine with an older Zoom ADSL router/modem.  About a year ago it died and I replaced it with an Actiontec router.

The router works fine, but, I cannot configure the printer tot the wireless network.  Although the new router has a WPN button is is disabled by the firmware.

This all happened about a year ago and I tried following various instrucitons to connect it with software and a USB connection via the Windows computer.  I tried, but, gave up.  My wife had had a number of surgeries and it was too much.

It has been about a year and I'd like to give it another try.  I imagnine the ink is all dried up in the printer cartridges, but, I'd at least like to see if I can get it going now that things have settled down.

I don't often use windoes anymore, so if there is a solution availaiable to make the connection viw software and USB on my Linux computer I'd much prefer that.  However, I'll take what I can get.

Can you help?

Hi! @muttleytm, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand you have issues connecting your printer to the network.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Is your printer working with USB connection?

Since I'm not

Please try few steps recommended below to convert USB to wireless using Windows PC.

First, make sure your computer is connected to your network.

If your printer is not currently connected to your computer, connect the USB cable between the computer and the printer.

Make sure your HP printer software is installed on your computer.

If your HP printer software is installed.

Click Start -> Programs -> HP -> -> Printer Setup & Software.

Launch the Printer Software from the Start screen (using the icon for your printer model) or from the tile named for your printer.
Select (click or touch) Utilities on the top of the Printer Software screen
Select Printer Setup & Software
Select Convert a USB connected printer to Wireless
Select “Convert a USB connected printer to wireless” from Printer Setup & Software or from the Welcome Back screen from the CD.
Carefully follow the instructions on the software screens. If you see a software screen prompt instructing you to connect the USB cable and the cable is already connected, check the checkbox which says “the USB cable is already connected”, and then continue.

The software may be able to automatically retrieve your wireless settings, which includes your network name and wireless password. If the wireless settings cannot be retrieved, you will have to pick your network name from a list of detected networks in your area and manually input your wireless password.

At the end of the process, you will be instructed to remove the USB cable.

You can download the printer drivers from this link.
