Deskjet 3630
Chrome OS

I use a Toshiba Chromebook 2 and my desktop PC runs Linux (Ubuntu 16.04). Currently my printer is a somewhat dated Deskjet 1050A. A few days ago, I unsuccessfully tried to switch to a Deskjet 3630. I couldn't get the printer to work because, basically, I couldn't connect it to my local wifi network. The printer told me it wasn't connected and referred me to the HP website, where I was told there was no support for my OS - presumably all would have been OK if I was running Windows or Mac OS.

Clearly, there's a problem here because at some stage the printer needs to be told my wifi password and a keyboard is needed to do this.

Does anyone know a way round this? It seems a fairly basic requirement that, if you can't get round, presents a real limitation to the usefulness of HP Print for Chrome.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Deskjet 3630 Printer. I understand that you unable to print from Chromebook and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Connect the printer to the router with the WPS push method.

Click here and refer page no.68 in the user manual to setup the wifi connection on the printer.

You can also refer this article to print from Chromebook.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers.

Thanks

I've had the same advice from the Chromebook Help Forum, and having checked out my router I'm confident I'll be able to connect a 3630 using WPS. Unfortunately, I rather panicked in the face of my problems and returned the printer to Amazon. However, when the ink runs out on my 1050, I'll have another go,  and I'm sure all will be well.
