I have set up my HP 5100 tank printer and printed wirelessly from both my laptop and my iPhone. Then when I try to print something on a different day. It tells me the printer is offline but the WiFi indicator light is on and solid but it will not print until I go through the whole setup process again. This is very frustrating. Nothing has changed with my internet system, no power loss yet the printer can’t stay online indefinitely.

Hi @Griff1800,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be to repeatedly set up your printer just to get it working again, especially when everything else with your internet seems fine. Let’s try to get to the bottom of this issue and find a lasting solution.

  • When the printer shows as offline, are you able to access its web interface by typing its IP address into a browser?
  • Have you noticed if the issue occurs after the printer goes into sleep mode or after a period of inactivity?
  • Is your printer connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, and have you tried switching between them?

Let's try these steps

Set a Static IP Address:

  • Access your router settings and assign a static IP address to your printer. This can prevent IP conflicts that might be causing the printer to appear offline.

Disable Printer Sleep Mode:

  • Check the printer settings via the HP Smart app or web interface and adjust the sleep mode settings to stay online longer or disable it if possible.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer is running the latest firmware by checking for updates in the HP Smart app under "Printer Settings."

Reconfigure Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Remove the printer from the HP Smart app and re-add it by connecting it to the Wi-Fi again, ensuring it’s on a stable 2.4 GHz network for better connectivity.

Restart Network Equipment:

  • Power cycle your router and modem by unplugging them for 30 seconds and turning them back on. Once they are fully running, restart your printer to reconnect.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
