I only have access to the hp smart app on my phone.
I am having a problem with my printer not sensing the correct paper size that is placed into the tray. I have plain, white, letter sized paper inside of the try and yet it will not let me calibrate the printer. It tells me i do not have the correct paper loaded.
When i try to print a document or a photo, it cuts off about 3" of the picture from the top leaving the bare minimum margin on the top, but have a lot of left over paper on the bottom that is not being used. The left over paper is not from the margin...just the end of the file or picture.

Welcome to the HP User Community.
This model series requires that the paper be loaded into the top of the printer as opposed into trays.
It is possible that the printer is simply not correctly sensing the paper due to feed issues.
Follow the instructions in this document:
- An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper (More complete cleaning options)
What else?
It is possible that the paper size / type is not set correctly - or that the printer has lost track of the setup.
Set / Adjust the Paper Size and Paper Type you would normally do using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
If you have not done so, try removing the stack of paper from the top input tray, flex (do not fan) the stack, return the paper to the tray. Open EWS and set / adjust paper size / type (Tray and Paper Management).
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper Size and Type at the Printer Display Panel
Open Printer Tray,
NOTE
If you are having trouble with getting the printer to accept (new) paper,
Remove the stack of paper from the tray
Lightly flex (do not fan) the paper to separate the single sheets
Re-stack together so the edges match along all sides
Return the paper to the tray
Wait a few seconds
Close Tray
NOTE This Section is not applicable to printers lacking a printer display panel.
Look for a message on the printer display panel.
Click Modify / Change / No-Yes (wording varies),
Select / Adjust the paper size and type, Click OK

Paper Sizes
No Size in List?
If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list,
If the printer supports the option,
Select Custom
Notes:
- Not all printers support size “Custom”
- "Copy" dislikes mismatched content / paper size and type. For example, select for Tray: Standard sized "Letter" / "A4" plain paper
