@PeterWaahlin, It's great to hear from you again.
I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.
As you needed to know what application would be supported by your printer.
I have attached screenshot below which shows what apps can be used for mobile printing.
If your printer had supported smart app, it would have been listed on the compatibility list. As there is no smart app on the list that means your printer does support printing using HP smart app.
Also, you can refer the same from my previous post which has a compatibility list of mobile printing options.
If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.
Hope this answers your query!
Take Care! 🙂

Hi! @PeterWaahlin, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you have issues printing using HP smart app on your iPhone.
Don't worry I'd like to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
What is the IOS version you are using on your iPhone?
Have tried printing using a with a different device? Does the issue persist?
As you mentioned you using Wi-Direct you are unable to print from HP smart app on your iPhone.
Please, the steps recommended below.
Try updating the IOS to the latest version and try printing again.
Try uninstalling the HP smart app from your iPhone/iPad and reinstall the latest version from the app store.
Or try printing using AirPrint and check it works.
1.Make sure the printer is on and in a ready state. If the printer is in sleep mode (power light is dim), turn the printer on or press the power button to wake it.
2.Open the document, photo, email, or webpage you want to print, and then tap the Action icon or to display menu options.
3.Tap Print or the Print icon, depending on the type of file you want to print.
4.On the Printer Options menu, tap Select Printer, and then select your printer from the list.
If a No AirPrint Printers Found message displays, go to the FAQ for more information.
5.Tap Options to change other settings if necessary. Some options, such as paper size, might not be adjustable and must be changed from the printer.
The Options menu might not display if your printer is black ink only.
Select the number of copies you'd like to print, and then tap Print.
note:
If you are using a Wi-Fi Direct/HP wireless direct connection, be sure to go back into Wi-Fi settings and connect your Apple iOS device to your network.

Reply:
Where did you read that the printer does not support the HP smart app? Please give me a reference (a text copy from the specifications list or a link). I'm using wifi direct. The printer does not support airprint, that's why I need to use the HP smart app.
