I purchased and successfully set up an HP Envy 4520 about 6 months ago. The printer has been working absolutely fine until a few days ago. Now, whenever I go to print something, I get an error message from chrome. It appears that the printer is somehow not receiving information from chrome. The screen on the printer remains in sleep mode, completely unresponsive to any requested printing job.
What I have tried: turning printer off then back on, verifying that printer and chromebook are on the same wifi network, and deleting then reconnecting the printer to my device. This was successful and even printed out the confirmation page showing the printer is now connected so this is clearly not a mechanical issue.
Is there something else I should try? Any other advice?

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you require assistance with not being able to print from your Chromebook. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a recent OS or software update?
- What is the exact error message that you receive?
- Please share an image or a screenshot.
For now, try these steps:
Please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2yzYnBS (HP Printers - Printing from a Chromebook)
- Step 1: Determine your printer connection type
- Step 2: Determine your HP printer type
- Step 3: Register your printer with Google Cloud Print
- Step 4: Print from your Chromebook
- Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Now check if it gets fixed. If the problem continues, then perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sw9Oax (Fix problems with Google Cloud Print)
This should do the trick.
- If the issue persists, then perform a power wash on the Chromebook and connect the printer. Then try to print. It should get fixed.
- Finally, if nothing works, reset or perform a recovery on the Chromebook and check again after connecting the printer.
- This should fix the issue. Do this only as a last resort if nothing else works.
Good luck and keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply. Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
