Hi @Carole246,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP Envy 6400e printer displays "busy" and doesn't respond when you try to print, it could be due to several reasons. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your HP Envy 6400e printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Allow the printer to initialize and come to a ready state.

Clear Print Jobs:

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause the printer to become unresponsive. Clear the print queue on your computer:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners in Settings).
    • Right-click on your HP Envy 6400e printer and select See what's printing.
    • Click on Printer in the top menu bar and choose Cancel All Documents.

Check Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network:
    • For USB-connected printers, check the USB cable and reconnect it securely to both the printer and your computer.
    • For wireless printers, ensure that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that your computer is also connected to the same network.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication issues. Check for and install any available firmware updates for your HP Envy 6400e printer:
    • Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model to find firmware updates.
    • Download and install the latest firmware following the instructions provided.

Restart Your Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart of your computer can resolve communication issues between the computer and the printer.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Carole246,

Restart Your Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart of your computer can resolve communication issues between the computer and the printer.

Check for Error Messages or Paper Jams:

  • Make sure there are no error messages displayed on the printer’s control panel.
  • Check for any paper jams or other visible issues that may be causing the printer to display the "busy" status.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • If the issue persists, reinstall the printer drivers on your computer:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners).
    • Remove your HP Envy 6400e printer from the list by right-clicking and selecting Remove Device.
    • Visit the HP Support website, download the latest drivers for your printer model, and reinstall them on your computer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • As a last resort, perform a hard reset of your HP Envy 6400e printer:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the power outlet.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the power outlet.
    • Turn on the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure that your printer has sufficient paper and ink or toner.
  • If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider contacting HP Support for further assistance,

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
