HP Recommended

I called HP because my new printer would not air print.  I was told I had a public IP address and needed to purchase firewall software to keep my data private.  I was told I could get a lifetime premium firewall software for the senior citizen discount of $749 which I paid by check online today.  Is this a scam and did I just get ripped off?  I am on a fixed income and just forked over $749!!  Help.  Thank you.
