Google Cloud Print alternative

What is HP's official position on the Google Cloud Print service being discontinued? Will HP create an alternate service offering the same functionality: web API for printing?

I realise that this is possible now by sending emails, but there are several disadvantages to this, including

- Longer print time due to email server interaction

- No apparent ability to get print confirmations / check print job status

So in other words: does a web service for printing to remote HP printers exist, or will one be created.
