Hi. Google Cloud print was set and working without problems until a week ago. Now, the print can't connect to the Google servers. WebServices is enabled , and the others functions work without problem, like ePrint. But nothing happen with Google Cloud Print. I've tried removing the account and, when I want to add it again, I receve this error:
The printer could not connect to the server. Check the Internet connection and try again.
If the printer requires proxy settings to connect to the Internet, configure these settings on the Proxy Settings page.
For more information, contact the person who set up the printer.
I've tried everything, even adding it to DMZ zone in router just in case. But I've not changed anything in the network environment, something happen with the connection between the printer and the Google Cloud Print.
BTW, I have the latest firmware installed.

After some months with these issues, the latest firmware fixed the problem. Google Cloud print is working again.
I manually searched for a firmware in the printer's screen. It found it and installed.
The firmware version seems to be 1828A from Jul 31 2018, since it's the latest one uploaded to hp site.
It also fixes some important vulnerabilities. And, sadly, I guess HP uploaded this new firmware just because of these serious vulnerabilities, not just to fix Google Cloud Print.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score.:)
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you do any changes to the printer?
- Which operating system is installed on the computer to which this printer is connected?
Meanwhile
Check the Internet proxy server settings
Locate the Internet proxy settings.
Windows: Search Windows for Internet, and then click Internet Options in the list of results. On the Internet Properties window, click the Connections tab, select your network, if necessary, and then click Settings.
The network settings menu displays with the proxy settings.
Figure : Example of proxy settings in Windows
Mac: Open System Preferences, and then click Network. On the Network window, click Advanced, click the Proxies tab, and then select your proxy, if necessary.

Write down the Address and Port values for your proxy server connection.
From the EWS, click the Web Services tab, and then click Proxy Settings.

Try to turn on Web Services.

Thanks for answering. I'd like to note that the printer is not physically connected to any device. It's standalone, using my home wifi. No changes has been made to the printer or network at the time this issue started happening. Also, I'm not using any proxy in my connection, and all the other web based functions of the printer are properly working. The problem is only with Google Cloud Print, it is something I use quite often. I forgot to mention I also tried changing DNS servers, just in case it's something with my ISP, to 2 different DNS servers (not only Google Public DNS), and it didn't help.

Ok, the problem may be related with an issue HP should take care via firmware update. Google announced they were chainging their certificates in 2018 long ago, but HP didn't update firmware for this model:
https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/7576108?hl=en&ref_topic=7577465
This topic may need to be escalated to the firmware team. Otherwise, this HP printed, sold as "Google Cloud Print ready", is falling into false advertising.

Hello sandytechy20,
I have the same problem as well and suddenly the printer stopped printing from Chromebooks.
I went into Embedded Web Server of OfficeJet Pro 6970 and realized that Under Network>Google Cloud Print>Setup communication to google cloud does not work. While trouble shooting I removed the printer from google cloud. Later when I click on "Print Claim Sheet" button to add it back, I get the following error:
The printer could not connect to the server. Check the Internet connection and try again.
If the printer requires proxy settings to connect to the Internet, configure these settings on the Proxy Settings page.
For more information, contact the person who set up the printer.
This printer is used at home and there is no proxy server. The network topology did not change at all. It looks like over night Google disabled printing to this model of printer. This printer was specifically chosen because my kids use Chromebooks at school.
We are also Instant Ink customers.
Please help resolve the issue asap as they cannot print any more.

I am having the same issue on an Officejet 6968. When i click to print the claims page it tells me it cannot connect to the server but I know the internet connection is up because HP e-print works just fine. No Proxy or anything in use on this network and i am using a wired connection with a static IP.

I run Linux Ubuntu 18.04 but that does not matter i can print over the network just fine when i am in the house the issue is that when i am in the printer settings page specifically the network page i go to Google Cloud Print > Setup > Print Claim Sheet and it then tells me that it cannot connect to the server. HP Eprint works and the other online services work so i know my printer is connected to the internet properly. I have tried factory resetting my printer and i am on the latest firmware available which is MCP2CN1716AR. We have HP printers at work that are able to do this just fine so i know what the process should look like and at one time this printer worked with Google Cloud Print but it just stopped not too awfully long ago maybe a month or two ago....The latest firmware update is dated 2017-04-19 so it is well over a year old the firmware that is. How can i update the certificates mentioned earlier in this thread so that my printer will connect to Google Cloud Print again?
Thanks,
Scott
