HP ENVY 5549
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I needed to get a new router and modem from Spectrum.  I set up, using the Wireless Wizard.  It will recognize my 2G, but not my 5G network, which is what my laptop always uses.  I was able to get this set up with previous networks.  I'm a snowbird, so turn in my equipment and get new equipment each winter.  I've used the HP Print and Scan Doctor, all to no avail.

Is there help for me?  Do I need to purchase a USB cord to connect my laptop to my printer?  Will that definitely work?

As long as your router also supports the 2.4GHz bandwidth, it is OK.

Printer Specifications for HP ENVY 5540, DeskJet 5570 Printers

Wireless
802.11 b/g/n – 2.4 GHz networks only

What to do?

You need to log into your router,

Find out whether it supports both 5GHz and 2.4GHz,

If the router supports both,

  • Adjust the router settings to broadcast on both 5GHz AND the 2.4GHz bandwidth.
  • Give the 2.4GHz bandwidth a different SSID name.

For example, if your 5GHz network is named MyFancy5GHzNetwork, name the 2.4 network SSID as MyFancy24GHzNetwork.

Connect your printer to the 2.4GHz bandwidth SSID.

Both networks can be assigned the same Passphrase (Wireless password) used to connect to the network.

Computer can remain connected to the 5GHz network and will simply use 2.4GHz to talk to devices that use that bandwidth (like your printer).
