@stomach, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It's unfortunate to hear about the scanning issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw after updating. Here are some steps you can take to restore functionality to your scanner:

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the current printer drivers and software using the Devices and Printers section in the Control Panel.
  • Re-download the latest drivers for your printer model from the HP Support website.
  • Install the downloaded drivers and software, ensuring the scanner components are included.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to the network. You can verify this by checking the network status on the printer’s control panel.
  • If you are using wireless, make sure the printer and computer are on the same network.

Update Firmware:

  • Check for any firmware updates for your printer which may have been released after the Sequoia update.
  • Updates can be found on the HP website and may address compatibility issues.

Manual Scan Setup:

  • Access the printer’s control panel and navigate to scan settings to confirm they are correctly configured.
  • Try using another scanning application like HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
