I'm using HP's email print service to print documents on an installed remote HP printer via WiFi/SMTP. When in Google Drive>Docs>File>Send As Attachment my print job works. But when doing the same thing in Gmail it doesn't?

I have made several attempts, checking/rechecking email addressing. The only error message I get to my returned gmail is: 550 5.7.1 Command rejected.

Does anyone know what difference exists between these Google services that would lead to this different behavior on my HP printer?

Welcome to the HP Community

Confirm the following ePrint email requirements.

  • Enter only the printer email address in the 'To' field: Multiple email addresses might cancel the print job.

  • Add text in the 'Subject' field: A blank subject field might cancel the print job.

  • Attach no more than 10 items to the email: The total size of the email, including attachments, must be 10 MB or less.

Refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03601466 for HP ePrint Job Does Not Print.

Thanks for the suggestions. But I believe these instructions are contained in the printer docs. I'm confident that I've done this as required.

I note that when I successfully eprint from Google Docs I can also choose to send a copy of the eprint to the related Gmail address (same account) So for some reason adding an extra email address using the Google Docs>File>Email As Attachment command works. This is effectively like adding an additional email address to the 'To' field of the eprint email. Something which you indicate could cause problems.

I know that Google Docs does not use Gmail to email an attachment. The email sent from the Google document does not register in the Sent folder of the related Gmail app (same account)

This is frustrating because we require the Gmail eprint because our customers are more likely to require eprinting via Gmail rather than Google Docs

I have made some progress. I have found that I can eprint to HP printer using a vanilla gmail account e.g xxxx@gmail.com. My problem is that I can't do the same using an alias address linking my domain name to my google account e.g xxxx@business.co.nz

Many businesses must have the same set up as I'm using. They will have a domain name for their website and matching email address while using the Google Gsuite platform for document creation/storing and mail. Google gmail settings allow the substituting of a business email address along with SMTP sever address of a domain/email provider. This works fine for all my email requirements except HP eprinting.

I have searched this problem and found many others who have the same kind of issue using a variety of mail programs. At this point my hunch is that it's a problem with my MX record settings. I will go through the checks with the relevant tools and come back here with my findings.
